I remember those kits so well. There were deck mechanisms selling for prices ranging from Rs.500 to Rs.1200, IIRC. And I used to wonder how good those mechanims would be. I never got around to building anything with them. Your head preamp must've been a really tough job, no? Isn't the SNR a big challenge for such circuits?
